Individual Therapy

Finding the right match in a therapist is essential to beginning this uniquely personal process. Therapy often gets a bad name when there is a sense of disconnect between client and therapist, which can make therapy feel like another struggle. Life is challenging enough. I am committed to creating a comfortable and genuine dialogue with each client, or to offering more fitting outside referrals. I am able to put people at ease, welcoming humor where appropriate.  I find that open communication about the process of therapy with my clients always, but especially at the beginning of therapy, helps to find the right cadence of conversation that feels right for each client; I am flexible in terms of how much feedback I give vs. how much I hold space for clients to think, feel, and process with me as a quiet, but observant witness.  I have found that getting this balance ‘right’ greatly improves client’s experience of therapy as healing and cathartic.

I have a broad view on all that is possible within the human experience, and I don't shy away from the shadow side of that experience, but instead include it and explore it with compassion and understanding. I am regularly inspired seeing how this nonjudgmental approach helps people heal.

I also work with children and teens and am honored by the way they let me in as I do my best to understand and speak their language and move at their pace. This allows for trust in the therapeutic relationship, the foundation of effective therapy, especially with kids. I always include parents/caregivers in the progress of a child or teen’s therapy and have frequent consultation calls with parents, while also respecting a child or teen’s right to privacy as appropriate by age.

I have studied mindfulness and meditation for the past 14 years and find that even those who “don’t like meditation” can be surprised by how a few mindfulness skills/ tricks can significantly help them to reduce their suffering in areas of challenge. I welcome Spanish-speaking clients, as well as clients of all cultures and identities.

I am currently seeing clients in person as well as virtually.
