Family Therapy

I understand that the idea of family therapy is intimidating for many and understandably so, as families often get stuck in painful patterns of relating and miscommunication that perpetuate hopelessness and hurt. When appropriate, I work to mediate this by having a few ‘preparing’ sessions with individual family members to help them develop clear goals for what it is they want to achieve with their family. Clients have told me that this way of working created change that they didn’t imagine was possible. I was trained in family therapy in 2008 at The Family Institute of Pinole in the techniques of Brief Strategic Family Therapy as applied to families with teenagers among other family therapy techniques. I always consider a family’s culture and take it into account with respect as I suggest interventions and I also understand that families come in all shapes and family doesn’t just mean blood related. I welcome to family therapy anyone you consider part of your family.
